Genevieve Rix is a registered psychologist who brings an emotion-focused approach to working with adults and adolescents (12+). She provides psychological therapies for a range of mental health difficulties – including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, relationship and social issues, self-esteem, grief and loss and weight management concerns. Genevieve has a breadth of experience in the mental health field, having worked in hospital and sub-acute psychiatric settings, universities and secondary-schools.
Genevieve has an interest in weight loss maintenance following Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (Lap band surgery). She supports clients both pre and post weight-loss surgery to develop both the internal and external support structures that have been identified as influencing attainment of weight loss goals.
Genevieve draws from a variety of therapeutic modalities in her feedback-informed, client-centred approach. She has undertaken extensive training in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and highly values the opportunities EFT provides clients who are seeking to process past emotional injuries and make meaning of their emotional experiences.
Genevieve also utilises Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). She has specialised training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and is able to support clients seeking to expand their skills in Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
